In brief:

  • As of Saturday, 17 October 2026, no flights operate from the North Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. All flights have been moved to Terminal 4 and to the Hajj and Umrah Halls Complex.
  • The transition was phased in starting from 27 September 2026, and Jeddah Airports Company announced its completion on the evening of Friday, 16 October.
  • Terminal 4 features an independent center for processing Hajj and Umrah group travel formalities.
  • If you are traveling for Umrah or returning from Jeddah soon: Confirm your flight’s terminal with your airline or the Umrah company you booked with. Do not rely on outdated information about the "North Terminal."

If you are preparing for Umrah this season, there is an important change at Jeddah Airport that you need to know about before your day of travel, particularly for your return journey. The old North Terminal, which for years handled many foreign airlines’ flights, is no longer in operation. In this article, we explain exactly what has changed, who is affected, and what you need to do to avoid showing up at the wrong building.

What Happened?

The Jeddah Airports Company announced the completion of the transfer of all North Terminal flights at King Abdulaziz International Airport to Terminal 4 and the Hajj and Umrah Halls Complex, effective from Saturday, 17 October 2026. The airport announced this via its official account on X, and this was reported by newspapers such as Youm7 quoting Al-Madina, and Egypt Today on 17 October.

The transition did not take place in a single day. The phased operation of Terminal 4 began on 27 September 2026 with Wizz Air, Ajet, and SalamAir. Other airlines such as Fly Jinnah, Nesma Airlines, Akasa Air, Syrian Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, Azerbaijan Airlines, and Tunisair followed up to October 3, according to Hajj Reporters. During the same period, other airlines were transferred to the Hajj and Umrah Halls Complex. The published plan also mentions that some airlines operating from Terminal 1 and the Hajj complex may be included in this move "according to operational needs."

As for Terminal 4, reports indicate it covers approximately 97,000 square meters, can handle up to 15 million passengers annually, and features an independent center specifically for processing group departures of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. According to these reports, Jeddah Airports Company states that the goal of the move is to improve operational efficiency, increase capacity, and enhance the passenger experience.

What Does This Mean for You?

Jeddah Airport is the main gateway for most Umrah pilgrims coming from Egypt, both inbound and outbound. So the practical question is: Which terminal will you depart from?

If You’re Flying EgyptAir

According to Al-Ahram Gate (December 2024), EgyptAir moved all its Jeddah flights from the North Terminal to the new Terminal 1 in December 2024. The latest published transfer updates did not mention EgyptAir among the moved airlines. However, this information is nearly two years old—and the new plan might affect some airlines in Terminal 1. So, confirm your terminal a day before your flight.

If You’re Flying Another Airline

If you are flying with any of the airlines mentioned above, your flight no longer departs from the North Terminal. If you are flying with an airline not listed in the news, this does not necessarily mean your terminal hasn’t changed. The only reliable source for your departure terminal is your airline or official airport channels.

If You’re Traveling with an Umrah Group

The Travel Agency organizing your trip is responsible for the group arrangements, including where your group meets at the airport and the bus schedule. On the return journey, in particular, make sure your bus is heading to the correct terminal, as Jeddah airport has more than one terminal building, and turning up at the wrong one can waste precious time before your flight.

Old Booking Papers

Some tickets or Packages issued a few weeks ago might mention "North Terminal." This information is no longer valid. Do not rely on old paperwork—ask for updated terminal details.

What Should You Do?

  1. Check your terminal a day before traveling: Use your airline’s website or app, or the official King Abdulaziz International Airport channels. This is the advice the airport itself has repeatedly given travelers: confirm your departure terminal before heading out.
  2. Ask your Umrah company a specific question: “Which terminal does the return flight from Jeddah use? Where is the group meeting point?” Ask for a written answer on WhatsApp.
  3. Allow extra time: The new buildings might be unfamiliar for you and your driver, so leave earlier than usual.
  4. Check your boarding pass: After finishing travel formalities, make sure the terminal and gate numbers are on your boarding pass, and keep an eye on airport screens.
  5. If you’re booking for relatives: Write the terminal name clearly in a message they can easily show to the driver or coordinator.

If you’re still choosing your Umrah Package, you can compare Umrah Packages from different companies on 4Safar. Ask the company about the airline, arrival airport, and return airport before booking.
